Yvo van der Vat

1974, Dordrecht

Yvo van der Vat is a versatile visual artist. He's designer and curator of Baracca, the artist initiative he founded with Ibrahim R. Ineke, while on the other hand he tries to convince the viewer of the beauty of the everyday through various projects and installations.

To him, both exhibition opportunities offer unique snapshots, in which spatial experience can be considered a ready-made, with the audience playing a role in the work as well. The installations are derived from his fascination with industrialization, mass production, and inspirational situations in everyday life. Yvo van der Vat constructs new situations that are comparable to the experience of a déjà vu. To a large extent, his installations are motivated by the existential, while added humor offers some perspective just as in everyday life. Van der Vat graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. His work is regularly shown in art spaces throughout the Netherlands, and he is founder of several artist-run initiatives, including Paparazzi and Baracca.
