Partner of Noordkaap, The Patchingzone, posted a call for an upcoming research project: Recycle-X

location: Dordrecht (Rotterdam area) Research question:

How can we gear up the Voorstraat Noord (former main street of Dordrecht) towards becoming a sustainable cultural axis of Dordrecht?

Keywords: ecology, design, urban planning, site specific interventions, wearable technology, art and culture industry.

A project in collaboration with Noordkaap and specialists (artists, designers, architects) from the city.

Recycle X consists of a series of ecological interventions against gentrification, workshops around recycling and urban design that lead to a practice based plan for the 'cultural main structure' in the centre of Dordrecht. A small team will initiate several highly visible yet subtle performances that stimulate the general public to rethink their cultural paradigm in respect to their direct cultural environment.

The Patchingzone is a transdisciplinary laboratory for innovation where Master, doctor, post-doc students and professionals from different backgrounds create meaningful content. In our laboratories the students and researchers work together, supervised by experts, on commissions with creative use of high-tech materials, digital media and / or information technology.

The Patchingzone applies the ‘Processpatching’ approach that is defined by its initiator’s (Anne Nigten) PhD thesis, as it’s main methodology for creative research and development, and builds on the knowledge and expertise from the V2_Lab, the research and development department of V2_. V2_ is a widely acknowledged centre for art and media technology, based in Rotterdam. V2_ produces, presents and distributes media art. Furthermore, we build on shared expertise from the network of collaborators and experts from the field.
